    The Broncos were founded in 1960 as one of the original teams of the American Football League (AFL). They played their home games at Mile High Stadium until 2001, when they moved to their current stadium, Empower Field at Mile High.

    The Broncos joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL-NFL merger. They made their first Super Bowl appearance in 1978, but lost to the Dallas Cowboys. They also lost Super Bowls in 1987, 1988, and 1990.

    The Broncos became one of the most successful teams in the NFL in the 1990s under the leadership of head coach Mike Shanahan and quarterback John Elway. They won their first Super Bowl in 1998, defeating the Green Bay Packers. They repeated as champions in 1999, beating the Atlanta Falcons.

    The Broncos continued to be a competitive team in the 2000s and 2010s, making seven playoff appearances and winning four division titles. They reached their seventh Super Bowl in 2016, led by quarterback Peyton Manning, who retired after the season. They defeated the Carolina Panthers to win their third Super Bowl title.
